This weekend we were very lucky to attend an open day at Nick Mason's country home in Wiltshire. The ex-Pink Floyd drummer opened his stunning home to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance – a very worthy cause that relies 100% on public donations. For many, the highlight is being able to get up close to some of his 30-plus car collection that includes some very special and extremely rare models.

The star of the show was without doubt the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. This rare, 3.0-litre V12 machine was purchased back in 1977 for £37,000, which at the time was a huge amount of money.

Today, this immaculate example is said to be worth up to £30-million. It has to be one of the most precious cars in the world, yet here it is parked up for all to see – no fences or ropes – just sat on Nick's drive in front of his house. It seems everyone wants their photo taken next to it, from small boys to grandpas – it really is something special. What's even more incredible is the fact that Nick still drives it.

The GTO may be the star, but there are plenty of other amazing vehicles on display – again, all parked up within easy access. Next to the GTO is a Ferrari F40 – the '80s racing car for the road packing a turbocharged V8 and carbon fibre construction. To the other side sits a Carrera Panamericana Ferrari MM.

Nick's love for Ferrari is clear to see as three modern day machines take pride of place on the lawn in front of the GTO.

A La Ferrari is flanked by a 599 GTO and an F12 TDF – a lighter, track-focused F12 and one of only 799 produced. The La Ferrari is also the only one in the world finished in Blue Pozi.

Although Ferraris feature heavily in Nick's collection, his racing heritage is evident with some competition machines parked up behind the Italian exotica. One stands out in particular – a McLaren F1 GTR.

With a huge rear wing and bold livery, this thing oozes coolness. But it also has some very special history behind it... This one, chassis number 10R, was McLaren's test car for the 1996 season and has been converted to road spec. It has been fully repaired after an "off" at Goodwood a few years back and looks absolutely immaculate.
