One of the main focuses for Ramair as we head into 2020 is to develop new products and applications, especially for our premium PRORAM range of filters. With this in mind, we’ve brought two talented guys on board to create Ramair Advanced Development – RAD for short. 

Dave Massey and Dave Nicholls bring with them an extensive skill set and wealth of experience in the performance automotive field. This includes establishing the well-respected DaveFab brand of alloy fabricated components for the Mazda MX-5. They also developed the innovative, single-turbo setup for Chris Roberts’ BMW 135i – the 600+bhp Ramair track monster that you’ll often see hammering around Castle Combe Circuit.

RAD will lead new product development for Ramair, specifically with the premium PRORAM range of filters. As a ready-formed team with specialist skills, they can work efficiently, taking an idea from concept through to working prototype very quickly. Utilising state of the art Solidworks 3D CAD software and a 3D Faro arm scanner, measurements can be taken and designs produced quickly. These highly detailed renders can then be evaluated and refined before a prototype is made, saving time and costs on fabrication. 

The prototype can then be tested on our flow bench to compare it with a stock part, such as an airbox or turbo inlet. The key factors are that any new product must be functional, offering tangible performance benefits, as well as looking good. One of the latest projects is the oversized intake for the 2.0 TSI Gen3 engine used in the Golf R and many other MQB vehicles – something that may be adapted to use on Ramair’s SEAT Leon Eurocup car next season. In fact, motorsport is something that RAD has a particular interest in, and with two race cars on the team (the other’s a Golf TCR), it’s the perfect opportunity to develop and test new products in the most demanding environment. 

It isn’t only beautifully fabricated pipework that RAD specialise in though. The team are experts at sheet metal, which is used to produce their range of DaveFab header tanks and other parts. They are able to produce castings – ideal for collectors on manifolds, bosses, maf housings, pipework elbows and other applications. Products may also be designed in plastic and carbon fibre, opening the door to a huge range of further applications. 

As well as producing products under the Ramair and PRORAM brands, RAD will be undertaking bespoke projects. They have the facility to offer a compete solution to a customer, from initial design, through to fabrication and testing, as well as offering packaging and distribution via Ramair’s slick e-commerce operation.
