Ramair's SEAT wins at Castle Combe

Ramair's SEAT wins at Castle Combe

What a weekend! Sunday saw Jamie Sturges out in the Ramair SEAT campaigning in the second round of the CSCC New Millennium series at Silverstone. Once again we were at the sharp end and qualifying 7th in a massive grid of 44 cars looked promising.

A great start and some very close action early on lead to an early pitstop to leapfrog a WTCC BMW and Porsche GT3 who had become the cork in the bottle, it worked perfectly and we emerged in 4th, leading the class ahead of the Lotus Exige GT3. An unsafe release penalty (dubious!) however put us back a large number of places and 2nd in class was our only reward in the end.

A quick turnaround back at base to grab some slicks and it was off to Castle Combe for round three of the Combe GT Championship on Monday with Jamie currently in a three way tie for the lead.

With a new tyre type for the race, qualifying was spent getting the dampers set and we started further back than hoped. The “Mayday Madness” meeting lived up to its billing in the race with class rival and current champion Ilsa Cox’s SEAT Supercopa being taken out at high speed over Avon Rise while passing a Ginetta.

They say lightning doesn’t strike twice but when Jamie passed the same car a few laps later, in the same place, there was contact again. This time the Ginetta span out and hit the tyres heavily at Quarry, but the SEAT sailed on – those Spaniards make ‘em strong! (Thankfully the other driver got out unharmed). With attrition affecting other championship hopefuls, the chequered flag brought us a third class win, another point for fastest lap, and a clear lead in the title hunt. Time to rest the faithful SEAT now and really get to grips with the Golf TCR for the next round in 3 weeks' time.
